KLEVER

"In The Name Of Peace AndProgress" (c)(p) 2005

Gloomy, all-instrumental psychedelic indie rock from St. Petersburg. Three out of five tracks are over 10 minutes long, and all have titles like "Trip#1" or "Trip#4" - smart, ain't it? The lineup is about as minimalist as it gets - guitar, drums, and various wind instruments (a bit of synth added at times, too). They produce a truly chiding, tense atmosphere - the new stuff is much darker than the band's self-titled debut EP. The tracks, though generally long, maintain the suspense well and have good energy (though probably not good vibes) -they would be great for some arty, silent thriller perhaps, though they very much stand on their own as they are. The booklet photos of derelict industrial landscapes add quite a lot in the way of atmosphere; the only information provided with regards to the band is "Composed and performed by Klever". "Klever", actually, is also Russian for "clover* - which makes the band all the more clever.
